Problems Continue at Quincy Park

Despite efforts to alert the County and Schools to safety and security issues at the ball fields. Issues continue. Today, March 25, 2011 as the W-L Varsity Softball Team prepared to ride a bus to the game at Mount Vernon High School and the Junior Varsity prepared for a  home game against Mount Vernon, we got this snapshot of the increased number of vagrants who are populating the Park.  We hope it won't take an incident before action is taken.

  3. This is not occuring on WL School grounds. I feel that if they send our girls to this park the standards should be the same.

  4. Why do you think those are vagrants? Looks like some people hanging out. Quincy Park is for everyone.

  5. Do the young girls not have adult supervision when they practice in public areas? This seems more like a supervision issue. Those guys don't look menacing from the shot but if they are in reality then someone should call the police non emeregency number. That's what it's there for.

needles and beer bottles on the fields - sleeping men in the dugouts - i think we can use the word "vagrants" with some certainty. come by and see!!

  7. vagrants - it is offensive - they find beer bottles in the restrooms at the high school. They were not left by vagrants.

Lets just concentrate on the field and getting the county to treat this field like other fields in the county such as greenbrier/yorktown and barcroft. If people need to sleep in the dugout at night because it provides a shelter so be it. The problem is the lack of field maintenance both infield and outfield.

  8. Homeless people sleeping in a dugout that is the home field for an Arlington County Public School is not acceptable. The persons sleeping in the dugouts leave trash, food and urinate in them (and they do drugs). The home field for a HS team should be in a safe and secure area. APS and the police have been notified regarding the lack of safety in this area and this is where we are today. This area is not safe and secure and we are very worried about our girls. I believe, other dugouts in Quincy Park have been locked to keep people from sleeping in them.
